Americans political, social and personal views appear to be dangerously polarized and dividing the nation? Social unrest and political partisanship are further dividing America. Many no longer identify as “traditional” Americans or as Americans in general. Mainstream and social media seem to paint extreme positions that could be out of touch with most Americans? And these severe viewpoints are sensationalizing the headlines and possibly misaligning American culture and damaging our future? In reality, a majority or 38% of Americans identify as “right of center.” And will argue and emphasize, slightly right of center. It appears this majority is losing ground in the headlines and representation within our federal and local governments. Our conservative background is being lost to misguided rhetoric, vocal minorities (ideological, not racial) and an out of touch media. The purpose of this blog will be to identify what it is to be “slightly right of center” and through information, dialogue and discussion provide a forum for our “majority “voices to be heard and our conservative roots mainstream.
America is changing
America (and the world) are changing — a change that is taking us away from a unified conservative tradition my parents and grandparents understood to one of split and divided ideologies, unending conflict, misaligned migrations, and governmental distrust. Recent events are particularly troubling highlighting a gruesome and polarizing election, growing social divisions, unwarranted biases and an apparent corruptness in our political process. It has resulted in a growing number of citizens losing trust in America and no longer identifying with it. Most Americans grew up with a basic understanding of what was right and wrong and most importantly what it was to be an American; culturally, morally, ethically, and most importantly identifiable. And at the heart of these separations lies some of the most misinformed, deranged, and disheartening views.
What is evolving?
America is evolving into a self-righteous, split, dependent and “someone else gets it done” society. Moreover, one that appears to be losing the respect of a global community. People are starting to identify with backgrounds, self-proclaimed cultures, and ideologies rather than as Americans. Our conservative foundation is on the brink of disrepair and with it will go our fundamental understanding of who we are and why we have been so successful – a success we all share today.
Righting the ship
Traditional values built our country with beliefs such as hard work, personal accountability, respect, and acceptance for others. Providing opportunities is America’s foundation but these opportunities were not given but earned. Success came from inside oneself and living lives of respect, patriotism, compassion, and admiration for accomplishment. It has always been a “come together” and “just get it done” culture. One in which being American was foremost; above all the differences and challenges.
American success it is not about its riches as much as it is about adapting, correcting and creating prosperity for all. America is a nation of opportunity, accountability, and personal perseverance as well as a continuous beacon of freedom and liberty — and none of it free!
